Hesitant at first, glad I purchased February 25, 2010 Ranger 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'll start out and say I hate WOW. I refuse to pay a monthly fee for any game, no matter what. I don't even like MMO's. I bought this game because it was 8 dollars and no monthly fee. I thought, "hey, it's less than a movie ticket, if I play it for 2 hours, it's paid for itself." It exceeded my expectations.
I love RPG's. I installed and configured my character in under 20 minutes.
In 10 minutes, I was already captivated by the great quality of the game, the story seems solid and the controls are spot on with what I would consider to be an unique game.
I've put in 4 hours and am looking forward to putting in many more.
If you want a great experience but hate playing with other people or being forced to pay a monthly fee for a sub-par experience, i'd strongly suggest you spend the price (20 bucks now i believe) on this game. Sure, it's got a few years on it, but it's new to me.
Better than you'd expect April 11, 2010 N. Morrissey Alright, I've played quite a few MMORPGs in my day, some with monthly subscriptions and others being free and I have to say, Guild Wars is better than anything I've played so far.
I started playing on recommendation from my boyfriend and at first I was really skeptic but after creating my first character and diving into the Prophecies campaign, I was not disappointed. I loved the feeling of the different towns and how you could choose to just go into the field with just yourself and a few NPCs or feeling froggy enough you could team up with other people. I also loved how you could kneel (literally) at the statues of the game's Gods and the avatars of the gods would come down and bestow upon you blessings and enchantments for a few gold coins.
Although the level cap is only 20, that's only the beginning of the game. After level 20, you still obtain experience points to get more skill points for your character. Not to mention at that point, you can then start training to get your Elite Skills and Elite armor sets.
And I have to say I'm not really into PvP, but I got more into it the more I played Guild Wars. You have the option in Guild Wars to PvP with NPCs or to go up against other players and vice versa. You also get PvP specific NPC characters and Heroes to add to your party.
I would definately recommend Guild Wars to other RPGs lovers out there.
Guiild wars addon May 11, 2010 R. Mathews (Charlotte, NC) I bought this game as an add on for the Trilogy and have really enjoyed it. Loading it isn't very clear, so pay careful attention to how it is supposed to be loaded or get someone to help like I did.
RPG Is Alive And Well June 28, 2010 Shawna Shockley (Texas) I, like many other "old timers" (cut my teeth on Zork and Wasteland) was extremely hesitant about going online. I didn't want the monthly fee thing and I thought most were a sucker's bet to get you hooked then charge out the wazoo to keep playing with "needed" upgrades. I was extremely surprised and thrilled to find that this was the easiest dive into an online game than I ever expected. If you're a fan of the games like Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate but love the open-ended non-linear gameplay of titles like Morrowind and Oblivion, you have GOT to try this out. Great price, too.
NEVER BUY USED, though. I can't stress that too much. If it's been used at all it's worthless to you, trust me on this. You receive a unique access key that is good for as long as you want to keep playing the game and you can have up to four characters made.
Go for it!
No surprises here. Great game July 9, 2010 alex the Game is new unopened and includes both prophecies and eye of the north. "THERE IS ONLY ONE KEY" thats right one key for both games. personally i just got it for eye of the north and just added it to my account. it dose not allow you to split them in any way just to warn you. but i got it to add eye to my prophecies so i wasn't disappointed one bit. now on to the game.
if you enjoy games like wow but don't like the monthly fee and the level 80 characters killing you repeatedly than this may be the game for you. you really cant go wrong with this game when i got it back when it was originally $50 a game and here you can get it for dirt cheap "i spent $12" and you get the expansion eye of the north too. this is a great find in my book
